Follow Up

Type: feature

A Follow Up is a quick way to create a new Task that's automatically linked to an existing one through a Dependency. It's the fastest way to say "after I finish this, I need to do that."

How to Create a Follow Up

Tap the Hole Punch Menu on a task (or find it under More when the task is collapsed), then choose Create follow-up. This opens the Add Tasks screen with information already filled in for you.

What Gets Prefilled

  • Name - Prefilled as "Follow up: [original task name]". For example, creating a follow-up from "Send proposal to client" would give you "Follow up: Send proposal to client". You can edit this before saving.
  • Dependency - The original task is automatically set as the follow-up's dependency. The follow-up task will be blocked until the original is completed.
  • List - The follow-up is placed in the same list as the original task.
  • Tags - If the original task has Tags, the follow-up inherits them. If the task itself has no tags but its list does, the follow-up picks up the list's tags instead.

How the Dependency Works

Because the follow-up is dependent on the original task, it will appear as blocked and unavailable until you complete the original. Once you check off the original task, the follow-up automatically becomes available for you to work on. This is a great way to set up sequential workflows. For example:

  • "Research venues" → follow-up: "Book the best venue"
  • "Draft the report" → follow-up: "Send report to manager for review"
  • "Buy paint" → follow-up: "Paint the bedroom" Follow Up requires an Extra Stuff membership, as it relies on Dependencies.
